If you want to enhance your fitness, joining a gym probably seems like the obvious option. While there are a variety of reasons to belong to a gym, a gym membership isn’t essential to getting fit. It’s certainly not the only path to improve your fitness – nor is it necessarily the most efficient or cost-effective option. Go Outdoors

Who says you need fancy equipment to do cardio? Start your day by going outside for a run! It’s easy to find a nearby fitness trail or park, and it may soon become your favorite “go to” spot for a heart pumping run. Incorporating different types of cardiovascular workouts instead of sticking to the same routine every day is ideal because it’s less likely you’ll get bored. If your goal is to lose weight, there are different variations of cardio you can do, including LISS (Low-Intensity Steady State) or HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training).

A morning workout can be a great way to tackle your day head on, but then again, it’s easier said than done. Switch Up Your Work Commute

Changing your commute can have a substantial impact on your overall health. If you can manage to squeeze in the extra time, try biking to the office a few days a week or walking to a different bus stop. You can also seize opportunities to be more active throughout the day by taking the stairs instead of the elevator, parking further away from the office or utilizing your lunch time to go on a long walk.

Workout While Doing Housework

Get creative with your housework and turn it into a mini workout. Vacuuming, mopping, and sweeping for 15 minutes alone burns around 90 calories! Incorporating exercises like lunges, squats and push-ups in between certain household cleaning chores can add on to calories burned. For example, when you’re vacuuming, instead of walking along behind the vacuum cleaner, do lunges. As you can see, there are different ways to exercise without joining a gym.
