New Year’s Eve Traditions

Posted by MoneyKey on December 28, 2015
New Year’s Eve is only days away and it can be hard to think of ways to celebrate that are both unique and budget conscious. One way to add some fun to your New Year’s celebration is incorporate New Year’s Eve traditions from around the world. Here is a list of 9 global traditions that are fun, memorable and inexpensive.

Be like a Brazilian and wear white on New Year’s Eve to scare away bad spirits and bring in good luck.

During New Year’s Eve the Danes stand on a chair and when the clock strikes twelve they jump off to ring in the New Year.

If jumping off a chair isn’t safe for your younger (or older) family members, adopt the Argentinian tradition of stepping forward with your right foot at midnight. This is supposed to set your year off ‘on the right foot.’

If you’re dreaming of a year full of travel then embrace the Colombian tradition of a suitcase race. At midnight grab an empty suitcase, run around your block and you’ll be rewarded with a year full of travel and adventure.

Just after midnight, crack an egg into a bowl and leave it on the window sill overnight. It is said whatever figure the egg morphs into by the morning will be your fortune for that year.

Keep your food simple and serve a stack of pancakes like the French.

For New Years, the Greeks bake a loaf of bread with a coin inside. The one who receives the slice of bread with the coin is said to have a year full of good luck.

If you have more of a sweet tooth, then adopt the Bolivian tradition and bake the lucky coin into sweets instead of bread.

Embrace the Spanish tradition of eating 12 grapes at midnight. If all 12 grapes are finished by 12:01 am then your wish will come true within the year. For a memorable New Year’s Eve try one, or more, of these New Year’s Traditions from around the world!
