What is an online line of credit?
An online line of credit is an open-ended loan – this means you can withdraw money up to your approved credit limit at any time. MoneyKey’s Online Line of Credit can have a credit limit of up to $1000. If you pay off the amount you borrowed in full, the interest and fee charges will stop, and your maximum credit limit will become available again for future use.
What is a credit limit?
A credit limit is the maximum amount of money you’ve been approved for by the financial institution. If a lender gives you a $500 line of credit, $500 is the maximum amount or limit you can withdraw from your account. You can request cash advances at any time as long as the amount does not exceed your available limit.
What is a minimum payment?
A minimum payment is the amount of money you are required to pay on your Line of Credit to keep it in good standing. A minimum payment is calculated for each billing cycle and needs to be paid by the due date set out in your periodic statement. Each minimum payment will consist of fees, interest and payment towards your principal (or amount borrowed). MoneyKey encourages you to make payments above your minimum payment to reduce your balance, increase your available credit and decrease your interest charges.
When should you use a MoneyKey Line of Credit?
A MoneyKey Line of Credit is ideal for unexpected expenses that may occur in your day-to-day life. These expenses could include home and car repairs, medical emergencies, or costs of travelling to work. When you need funds, you can withdraw any amount up to your credit limit; however, it’s important to only take out the amount you need, as you will be charged interest and/or fees on any amount you withdraw.
Why choose an online line of credit over an online installment loan?
There are advantages to choosing an online line of credit over an online installment loan. One of the advantages of an online line of credit over an online installment loan is that you apply for a line of credit only once and you can withdraw funds up to your available credit limit when you need it. On the other hand, with an installment loan, you can’t borrow more money immediately once the loan is paid off – you’ll have to apply for another installment loan each time you need extra funds.
Another advantage of an online line of credit is that for the same amount borrowed, each required payment is likely smaller than those required for an installment loan. Typically, each payment for an installment loan is higher than the required payment for a line of credit because with an installment loan, the customer has a set repayment schedule to pay off the loan within a specified timeframe. As a line of credit does not have a pay-off deadline, typically, each payment required will be smaller than those for an installment loan, but it will likely take you longer to repay the money you borrowed.
