Frequently Asked Questions: Maryland Line of Credit

Our answers to your most frequently asked questions

Effective June 3, 2017, MoneyKey is no longer accepting new Line of Credit applications in Maryland.

Q: How does a Line of Credit work?

A MoneyKey Line of Credit provides you with the benefits of a traditional loan, but allows you to have more control over your cash flow and payment options. Once approved, you can borrow any amount up to your available credit limit. When you pay down the principal of your Line of Credit, you can continue to access the remaining credit available up to your credit limit.

Q: What are the minimum requirements to apply for an online Line of Credit in Maryland?

To qualify for a Maryland Line of Credit, you must:

  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Be a US citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Be a Maryland resident
  • Have an active bank account
  • Have a regular source of income
  • Have a valid contact number and an active email address
Please note that we currently do not offer credit products with rates that allow us to lend to active members of the US Armed Forces and their dependents.

The MoneyKey Line of Credit is an open-ended loan meaning that the account remains active even after you have paid down to a zero balance. This means you have the convenience of being able to access the credit available to you in the account without needing to submit a new loan application.

You will be required to make regular Minimum Payments which include fees and/or interest and a required minimum principal payment.

If you opened your Line of Credit prior to May 11, 2016

Your Minimum Payment contains a 2% contribution toward your Outstanding Principal Balance. In other words, if you only make your Minimum Payment on your next Due Date and you have no Amount Past Due and do not make any additional draws between now and your Due Date, you will reduce your Outstanding Principal Balance by 2%.

If you opened your Line of Credit on or after May 11, 2016

For customers who receive their income on a weekly, bi-weekly or semi-monthly basis, your Minimum Payment includes a 5% contribution toward your Outstanding Principal Balance. For customers who receive their income on a monthly basis, your Minimum Payment includes a 10% contribution toward your Outstanding Principal Balance. In other words, if you only make your Minimum Payment, have no Amount Past Due, and do not make any additional draws between now and your Due Date, your Outstanding Principal Balance will be reduced by 5% or 10%, depending on your income frequency.

Please refer to the Rates & Terms page for more information.

MoneyKey encourages you to make additional payments over and above your Minimum Payment in order to reduce your principal balance owing, increase your available credit and decreasing your fees and interest charges.
